Katelyn Murphy, LCSW

I strive to create a welcoming, authentic, and relaxed environment where you can feel open and ready to talk through life’s challenges. I work with individuals and couples who are facing anxiety and depression, or problems in personal and professional relationships, or who are struggling to adjust to a life changing event or experience. I also work with people who are dealing with LGBTQ issues.

In our work together, I use an eclectic skill set, recognizing the individual needs of each client while respecting evidence-based frameworks. I use a person-centered approach to therapy, and leverage Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based interventions, as well as Attachment Theory and Solutions Focused Therapy.

My warm and authentic approach will help you to recognize and emphasize your strengths, and focus on your personal growth. By exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, I can help you to better cope with and respond to life’s difficulties. In therapy, you will learn new skills that help you to make intentional and informed choices that will enable you to achieve your goals. I encourage you to call or message our office today with any questions, or to schedule an appointment.

Client Testimonials

I have been working with with Katelyn for a year and a half. I’ve seen several therapists over the years and have never felt as comfortable with one from the outset. Katelyn’s warmth, compassion and relatability comes across immediately. She helps me approach life’s challenges with practical advice and solutions. I am so grateful for her help and would recommend her to anyone going through a tough time.

Katelyn’s support and guidance during a recent rough patch was truly remarkable. She was caring, understanding and she listened without being uncomfortably intrusive or aggressive. Katelyn also had the ability to bring levity to some difficult topics without seeming unprofessional or unfocused. I went in as a skeptic and came out a believer with a new outlook on my home life and professional life.

I began seeing Katelyn when I was having frequent panic attacks and could not manage them. Since starting my therapy with Katelyn, I have yet to have another panic attack. While my anxiety was the reason I began seeing Katelyn, there are far more reasons that I have continued my therapy with her for the past three years. Her approachable and friendly nature creates a comfortable environment to learn how to voice my previously unacknowledged thoughts and fears. She has opened my eyes to see my experience from a different perspective, helping me become less reactive and more aware of my role in the way I process information and experiences. She has also helped me dig into the tougher issues from childhood that I’m sometimes inclined to sweep under the rug. In sum, Katelyn’s practice is a holistic one, approaching therapy from all different angles based on what is working best for you at the time. I can’t thank her enough for the time I’ve had with her.

New York’s New Normal

As New York City enters “Phase Two” of the governor’s New York Forward plan, many people are still curious about what the new normal is going to be like. How do we find our way back to normal when the road map is unclear? Like any other situation in life,…

Social (Media) Distancing

As many individuals and families around the globe are “sheltering in place” either by choice or mandate, we find ourselves with more time than ever to connect via technology and social media. I’ve seen a number of screenshots of “virtual happy hours,” and posts about people reconnecting with long distance…
